Description
This jewellery box is a handmade piece, crafted out of noble walnut woods, satinwood and sycamore. Due to its design, the author called it Mosque.
Geometrically, the jewellery box is composed by a cube with a 8cm edge - the storage compartment – and on the top by a semi-sphere with a diameter of 3,6cm - the lid. The semi-sphere replicating the dome of a mosque, is built in such a way that its centre coincides with the centre of the cube’s upper face. In the opening process, the lid completely separates from the body of the piece. The difference between the length of the diameter of the semi-sphere and the edge of the cube helps create a three-dimensional image similar to the mockup of a mosque. The motif used in the decoration of the semi-sphere is a portal for the decoration of the Hipóstila room, in the Mosque of Córdoba.
