Description
Engraving in the form of a triptych with a gray background
Triptych with a dark gray background alluding to Abel and Cain.
Consisting of three sheets, the triptych presents a moral about the futility of materiality, which in reality leads to the accumulation of a set of empty pots.
a) The left sheet of the triptych is rectangular, with the upper left vertex concave and the lower left vertex convex. The upper part of the sheet is reinforced with a double internal line, forming a recessed block. Coinciding with the lower base of the sheet, there is a granite plate, separated by a white line, where one can read a name carved in light gray: "ABEL". The left sheet is adorned in the center by a panel delimited in white by a thick line. This panel forms a vertical rectangle with the lower left vertex convex. The panel represents the shadow of an open hand, oriented to the left, over a gold pot with the left handle uncovered. It is lying on its side with gold coins falling into a bag, which is already bulging. The setting is dark and a column with a round arch can be seen in the background.
b) The central leaf of the triptych is made up of four structural elements:
b.1) A first, which serves as a frame for the central panel. It has a black background and is decorated on the sides by two granite statues that represent the profiles of birds with raised wings. They have large, sharp beaks and heads embedded in Hellenic bodies, with their feet resting on a small pedestal, both engraved. On the left pedestal it reads: "THE NO", on the right it reads "THE YES".
The upper space of the central leaf is also decorated by a roof window, with two panes of glass, in the shape of a broken arch. Giving it the appearance of a roof, the reinforcement with a double interior line, of a block, is made, respecting the same level as the roof window, for each side of the leaf of the triptych.
b.2) The second structural element provides lateral continuity to the gravitational plates ABEL and CAIM (left and right sheets respectively). Placed at the base of the composition, they balance a panel on each side. They have a shape similar to equilateral triangles and act as pillars that support the central sheet of the triptych.
b.3) The central panel has a painted representation of a pair of luminous legs, visible from the knees. Stretched out and crossed, they are suspended, dripping liquid that drips into a levitated white pot. Below this, a set of other dark gray pots, several stacked inside a larger one, rest on a table with a white top and black frills.
b.4) Overflowing the triptych and drawn on the lower base of the central sheet, a set of 5 insects similar to beetles is visible. Their antennae are oriented upwards and are distributed laterally in relation to the others. They are placed symmetrically in lateral, posterior and frontal positions.
c) The right side of the triptych is symmetrical in relation to the left side of the triptych. The granite plaque has "CAIN" carved in light grey. In the central panel of the right side, there is a hand collecting gold coins from a perforated golden pot bottom. Colored in dark lilac, the composition is flanked on the right by a column with a straight capital and perfect arch.
