Identifier:
MusA-803
Description
It is a chordophone played with a small plectrum, assembled with four double orders (4x2= 8 strings) C, G, D, A, from low to high, tuned in intervals of fifths and fulfils the function of a ‘sopranino’ in the mandolin family. It has a similar morphology to the flat-bottomed mandolin, but only with a string length of around 25-28 cm. It was inspired by the Italian ‘piccolo mandolin’, an instrument also known as ‘quartini’, because it is tuned, like our mandolin, a fourth higher than the mandolin. The Italians use another tuning on this instrument: B, F, C, G, a minor third above the mandolin, which is why it is called a ‘terzini’.
