Description
Girl with her gaze fixed on a circular mirror above her head.
Engraving in grey and black tones, divided into three square blocks: two in the background and a central overlapping block outlined by a white line.
The child's frontal bust is the centrepiece on a black background and is therefore the foreground element of the engraving. With a high level of pigmentation, the image appears dull in the details, particularly in the features of the child's face. With her gaze raised and her mouth ajar, the little girl looks, raising her head, into a circular mirror. Her face is bare, with wavy hair falling down to her shoulders, just visible through faint lines. Her cheekbones, chin, forehead, left earlobe and neckline stand out due to the difference in light, contrasting with the dominant shadow in the rest of the composition.
She is wearing a dress with sleeves, no openings at the front, just one frill each in the armholes. The pattern of the dress is made up of small perforated circles, which, as the grain increases, turn into small flowers. Clear in the arm area, the pattern is highly corrupted in the chest area.
Aligned horizontally above the child's head are a set of numbers from 0 to 6, written in light grey. The number "0" is in the centre and starts two counts, one to the right and one to the left, in ascending order.
The two bottom rectangles, which are wider than the centre square, support it in the middle. The bottom rectangle is made up of a grey square textured in darker grey. Below the centre square is a set of 21 horizontally aligned fingers, and below each one a tiny letter of the alphabet, written in primary school handwriting.
The first letter is the "n" ending in the "v". The sequence continues with the "a" up to the "m". In the bottom left-hand corner of the engraving, between the letter "o" and "p" is written, in dark grey, outlined in black, in large Roman numerals, "XI". In the opposite corner, the letter "i" and "j" enter, also in Roman numerals, "III".
Above the central square, inside the upper block, on a black background, is a circular mirror the size of the girl's face, dotted with black dots similar to old worn-out mirrors. It has a frame that surrounds it, carved in fuzzy shapes, similar to intertwined branches. The mirror duplicates the child's face, with her gaze raised, her mouth ajar and her face uncovered.
The top line of the central square is underlined discontinuously by a thick grey stroke. In the first stroke on the left, a horizontal number sequence starts at "0" and continues counting up to "9", starting again from "0" to "4" and ending, in the last stroke on the right, at "00". The top corners of the centre square are reinforced with thick strokes.
