Portrait of two adult peasant couples: a young couple and an elderly couple. The clenched faces, the rough features, overloaded with black scratches, accentuate the shadows, abusing them with incisions. There is thus a heavy, sad atmosphere throughout the print.The elderly couple is placed frontally: the man in the center of the picture and the woman on his right side.
The young couple are standing in profile with their backs to each other, separated by the elderly couple. The young woman has a serious countenance, turned to the left, and positions her body with her back to the elderly couple. The young man stands behind the elderly couple in the background. He fixes a point in profile, directing it to the right.
The clothing of the figures is simple. The scarves on both women's heads stand out, tied in a knot close to their chests. They cover all the hair, the ears and the neck. There's also a contrast between the old man's white trousers and the younger peasant's dark hat.
