Gravura ➔ The woman and her clothes

Description
The author emphasises the theme of women's clothing.
Two figurative elements catch the eye in this work:
a) on the left, a young woman is posed in profile and dressed in a medieval habit. The bust is richly decorated with complex floral designs in black on a white background. The sleeves and thin collar also follow a floral pattern finely traced in white on a black background.  The dress leaves the back free at the neck. The lady's light-coloured hair is wavy and ends up pulled back, impeccable and hidden in a cone that extends to the right, reminiscent of headdresses from the Middle Ages. Thick buckles adorn the hairstyle. The young woman, with her grey face turned to the left, has her neck free. Her countenance is serious and her eyes are hidden behind a small mask that occupies the eye area. His left ear is completely uncovered, as is his round forehead.
b) Centred in the foreground and in the lower half of the picture is a high, slimming, red garter belt from which two lower clasps emerge. To its right, an open zip comes out of a moulded fabric. Above, centred on the engraving, the number "19" in transparent and "78" in black is stamped in black strokes on a grey pattern.
