Description
This jewellery box is a handmade piece, made of wood and veneered with ebony. The lid and the side surfaces are decorated with ebony and boxwood fillets. Due to the graphic design, which is reminiscent of a mosaic, the author called it "Mosaico" (Mosaic).
Geometrically, it consists of two parts, the storage compartment and the lid, which form a (hollow) straight square prism. The compartment itself is a straight square prism (hollow and open at the top). The lid corresponds to the upper base of the piece and, when the jewellery box is opened, it separates completely from the compartment. In its lower part, a thin straight square prism was added, to work as a fitting.

Este guarda-joias foi construído na década dos anos 80, do século 20, com madeiras nobres, essencialmente de ébano e decorada com filetes de ébano/buxo. Devido à beleza do ébano e ao desenho gráfico que faz lembrar um mosaico, o autor designou-a por "Mosaico". A peça é essencialmente decorativa, no entanto, o seu cariz é utilitário, servindo portanto, como guarda-joias. O guarda-joias "Mosaico" faz parte integrante da coleção dos 81 guarda-joias, doada à Universidade de Aveiro pelo Sr. Eng.º Joaquim Domingos Capela em Dezembro de 2013.
