This jewellery box is a handmade piece, crafted out of wood and veneered with ebony, sycamore and orange tree. Due to the configuration of the geometric construction of the lid, whose drawings on their limit represent a circumference, the author called it “Circumference”.Geometrically, the exterior of the jewellery box is composed by a regular octagonal prism, with 5cm base edges and a height of 2.5cm - the body of the jewellery box - and a right cylinder with a height of 0.8 cm and a circular base with a 6.9cm radius – the lid. The lid is decorated with an alternating sequence of regular polygons and circles, all concentric. Each shape is inscribed in the following one and the number of polygon sides increases from three (triangle) to eight (octagon).

Este guarda-joias foi construído na década dos anos 90, do século 20, com madeiras nobres, folheada com ébano/sicómero, com tampa circular em madeira de laranjeira decorada com polígonos de lados sucessivos no limite da circunferência) em ébano/sicómero. Devido à configuração da construção geométrica da tampa, cujos desenho no seu limite dão origem a uma circunferência o autor designou-a por "Circunferência ". A peça é essencialmente decorativa, no entanto, o seu cariz é utilitário, servindo portanto, como guarda-joias. O guarda-joias "Circunferência" faz parte integrante da coleção dos 81 guarda-joias, doada à Universidade de Aveiro pelo Sr. Eng.º Joaquim Domingos Capela em Dezembro de 2013.Languages
