Description
The jewellery box called Golden Ratio (Divine Proportion), has a parallelepiped shape and consists of two parts, compartment and lid. The box is coated in bird's eye wood, edged with ebony, and has corners made out of brass. Embedded on the lid is the number 1,618, made in brass, that is an approximation of the divine proportion, φ=5+12 , also known as golden mean. The inside is lined with bird's eye wood and the outside is polished with French varnish (alcohol + shellac).
To enhance the symbolism of the divine proportion, several pairs of measurements of the box follow this ratio: length and width, width and height, height of the lid and height of the compartment. As a result, four of the sides of the jewellery box are golden rectangles.
